Doug Rawlings taught at UMF for 27 years and is a co-founder of Veterans For Peace. Much of his poetry is political in nature and much of it comes from his experience as a soldier and veteran.

Diane Parker, who majored in history once upon a time, is still passionate about it. While living in what she thought was a mundane town in the Midwest, she discovered its history to be not so mundane. The 1920s were anything but mundane. Bonnie and Clyde had one of their major shootouts there. That led Diane to delve into more history of the decade called The Roaring Twenties.
Our Animal Stories: Woof, Baa, La La La

In this class, we will gather to listen to and tell stories about our animals, including those that have amazed, loved, annoyed, shocked, attacked, and/or entertained us over the years. Lyn Terranova will be the lead-off storyteller because Cathy says so. Please join us, tell your own stories, or listen to other’s stories. Photos of your animals are welcome. This is a time to share experiences and relax. No formal storytelling experience is necessary. Just join us and enjoy the time together.

Cathy Wimett has been amazed by stories Gold LEAFers, especially Lyn Terranova, have told about their animals’ antics over the years. Lyn has raised and lived with a wide variety of animals - and has the stories to prove it. She has welcomed cats, dogs, sheep, rams, turkeys, chickens, pigs, goats, and a llama into her home, barn, and fields for many, many years.

Potluck/Social & Walking Tour of Downtown Phillips, ME

Come join us for an afternoon in Phillips, Maine. Meet new friends, enjoy a delightful potluck meal together, and learn some Maine History in beautiful downtown Phillips.
Phillips is known for the beautiful Sandy River as well as the historical train station. It's the birthplace of Fly Rod Crosby, as well as the home of Daggett Rock and numerous other things.

Sharon is a certified yoga instructor and artist, and is knowledgeable about Phillips, ME history. She bought and renovated the Fly Rod Crosby House where the class is being held.

Geology Hike of Daggett's Rock in Phillips, ME
with Julia Daly

This will be a short hike and geological overview of Daggett's Rock, Maine's largest glacial erratic. The hike is about 0.3 miles up an old logging road, and the rock itself can be examined from several ground-level spots on a short loop that goes around it. There is some uneven footing on the access trail. I will bring maps and hand lenses to share with the participants.
Please wear appropriate clothing/footwear and a bug hat.
