In-Person Class

This group will meet once a month on a Saturday evening for about 2-3 hours to play various board and/or word games. The group would meet in members' homes for snacks provided by the host and each member would bring their drink/s of choice. Members may bring games they own and would like play, and host may provide games if available. Choices to be made by those present.

The group will meet on the 2nd Saturday of the month.

Patricia has been a member of GLI for three years. She is a retired HS math teacher and hotel office manager. She moved from Albuquerque, NM, where she chaired several similar groups within different organizations.

In-Person Class

We will explore three book forms that are easy to make using simple mailing and packaging supplies: envelopes, paper bags and postcards. Each book can also be made with recycled items or memorabilia -- a creative way to protect the planet while preserving memories!

There will be a $3 fee to cover the cost of paper and other materials used, to be collected in the class.

Laurie is the Head of Reference Services at Mantor Library. She has been making all kinds of books for over ten years and enjoys teaching book arts to others.

Learning How to Play Mahjong

Mahjong is a popular Chinese tile game played at leisure by four people or fewer. It is a relaxed and fun game so players can socialize with their friends while playing. Playing mahjong keeps the mind sharp and active because it involves skills and strategies.

This class is for any level player. Those who have taken previous classes will learn more strategy. There will be plenty of help to get new players caught up with this fun activity.

Classes are Friday, August 12, and Wednesday August 17

Dr. Carole Lee and Eddie Yuen will co-lead this class. Carole Lee is an associate professor at UMF. Eddie Yuen is a retired math teacher.

In-Person Class

Origami is the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures. Eddie loves origami. He volunteers his time at the local Warming Centers and instructs folks in the fine art of folding paper into beautiful and interesting shapes. Eddie's technique includes using scrap paper to make his beauties. Paper that might otherwise be thrown away is used to make lovely and interesting objects. Join us for a fun and interesting session of origami. You do not need to bring paper, but you may if you want.
